Matt Edleston

So why do you like Will Ferrell so much?

He makes the unfunny, absolutely hilarious. It’s like some magic that he has in him.

Do you love him?

hahahaha, I wouldn’t say I love him. I love his work.

What made you want to start riding scooters?

Well I started off, mountain biking with a bunch of friends and I always just kinda rode scooters around with the neighbors. We used to hit my old Black X Factor ramp all the time. It was awesome. We just kinda decided to go to the skatepark and ride scooters. I met Jake in his neighborhood, we were going to a birthday party and we basically pulled Jake into the car and headed to the park.

How would you describe your riding style?

You know, there are lots of times that I don’t even know what my riding style is like. Because I kinda try to do a little of everything. I wanna stay good at the park tricks and stuff but I also wanna be good at the technical stuff. I constantly try to up my game. Sometimes tech sounds way more fun and that day, I ride like that and other days, park tricks sounds better. I try to be good at all styles.

How do you feel about the park vs street argument?

I think it’s stupid. You know why? Tell Me Because at the end of the day, we are all riders. It’s a personal preference of what that individual rider likes doing. The bigger picture should be “Scootering” as a community. It’s not divided. Look at any other sport, they aren’t divided because they (Skateboarders) ride Vert or Park or Street. They all respect each other. We should all support each other.

When you first started riding, did you ever think the sport would be where it is now?

No. Nowhere near where it’s at today. We used to do it just to do it because it was fun. We had no goals at all. Back when we started, there were no companies. We had Razor and that was it. Over the years, a couple popped up and we were like “woah, that’s a one-piece deck, like…no way.” Then we started filming and making edits and movies and companies started to pick us up. It was kinda just step by step. Now we’re doing what we love AND making money doing it.

Let’s talk about your love life. What is it like dating Kevin Spacey’s granddaughter?

bwhahahahahahahhahahaha…WHAT!? I don’t even know what is happening right now.

That was a joke, I’m sorry. What does your Tinder Profile say?

hahahha. ummm, I know my Bumble one just says “Athlete.” I think my Tinder one is the same. <—(He’s single ladies)

Okay, we’ll be serious again…You’ve always kind of been the underdog, how does it feel to have input in the products a company is producing?

I think it’s everything I’ve dreamed of. I don’t really care that I’m not the most well-known rider out there. At the end of the day, I’m doing it for myself. I feel like some of these other people really depend on what others think of their riding and everything. When I post something, it’s more for myself, it’s not just to get approval. If you work hard for a clip, you want it to do well but…I’m just stoked to be able to use all the knowledge from these past 10 years of riding and put it into a deck. It’s a dream come true.

Since joining Delta in 2018, how has your experience been different than working with other brands?

Support. I’ve had support from Delta, that’s the main difference. In High School, I rode for Grit…you don’t really need a lot of money in HS. I needed money for insurance, gas and my phone. That was it. After the whole thing with Grit happened, I wasn’t really getting anything in return from scootering so I had to go find a job. Now it’s totally different because I can focus on riding, ideas, product(s) and Delta. Delta has given me the opportunity to stay focused on what I want to do.

Who would you like to see on the Delta Pro Team?

That’s a hard questions man. There are some many awesome riders and styles out there. If it were my choice, I’d have everyone man haha. All the homies, all the friends. I’d keep it family.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

At Delta Pro Scooters BABY. I wanna keep this rolling man. I want things to move up from here. I don’t have any plans to go anywhere anytime soon. I want to help the scooter community grow and grow as a person myself.

This is probably the best way to end an interview…Tomorrow, if you woke up as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, what is the first thing you would do?

Dip into my bank account hahaha. I’d probably just get a new car and truck. That’s all I really want right now.
